Cleon Michel, owner and operator of Bonus Bar-B-Q in Newburgh, Ind., began making barbeque after helping his uncle in the early 1980s. After years of trial and error, he now bottles his own barbeque sauce, a marinade, and his unique Bonus Cole Slaw Dressing.
Batches of the Bonus Cole Slaw Dressing — which received the Indiana Artisan designation — are typically made 200 gallons at a time to keep costs to a minimum, he says.
According to the company’s website, Bonus Cole Slaw Dressing is a sweet vinegar dressing that contains a unique blend of spices including celery seed and mustard seed, but does not contain any oil. The dressing goes great on slaw as well as cucumber onion salad.
Bonus Cole Slaw Dressing is sold wholesale for $24 per case, which includes 12 12-ounce bottles, or the retail price is $2.59 per bottle.
Big B Barbeque, a division of Farm Boy Meats, is located in Evansville, Ind., and they produce all Bonus products. Big B Barbeque obtains as much of their ingredients as possible from local markets.
