“The beauty inspires me, whether it is in a landscape, a work of nature or in the texture and graphic lines of a dilapidated building or architectural treasure.”

Photographer Marie Reamer learned the art of photography and how to develop photographic images in a darkroom more than 40 years ago at a Utah college. Today, she’s exploring “High Dynamic Range Photography” and a digital darkroom on her computer.

“My work captures the world as I see it through the lens of my camera,” she says.  “I pre-visualize how I want an image to look when I capture it, taking multiple exposures for a wider range of tones than what a camera captures in a single exposure. Then I go to my digital darkroom.”

There, Marie combines three to five exposures of the image, “and I sandwich the exposures to yield a High Dynamic Range image with a wider tonal range than a normal photograph,” she explains.

Marie studied Digital Photography and Photoshop at the Art Center of Indianapolis and at IUPUI. Her work has juried into many exhibits with names familiar to Hoosiers — IDADA, Nickel Plate Arts, Athens of Indiana, and Gallery 924’s Contemporary Figurative Show, to name a few.  She also was named a Hoosier Woman Artist by Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann.

Marie custom prints all of her images with archival pigment inks to produce archival prints which can last more than 200 years.

“Being a Hoosier, I have immediate access to large cities and smaller towns, and both allow me to capture unique architectural images, farms and countryside with many photographic options,” she says.  “The beauty inspires me, whether it is in a landscape, a work of nature or in the texture and graphic lines of a dilapidated building or architectural treasure.

“The ability to capture these images, digitally stylize them to realize my pre-visualization and to share them with others also inspires me to capture that special image,” she says.
