The work of eight Hoosier artists earned the Indiana Artisan designation this year, which means it has been judged to be among the best art in the state.
This year’s additions to the nearly 230 visual and food artists in 58 counties whose work carries the prestigious Indiana Artisan designation are: Adam Boyle, sculpture, Columbia City; Anne Brahaum, fused glass, Nashville; Tom and Heather Deno, wood art, Oxford; Todd Dobbels, wood art, Nashville; Ronda Fischer, watercolor, Lebanon; Gail Grasee, leather work, Indianapolis; and Anna Miller, photography, Indianapolis.
Former Lt. Governor Becky Skillman created the 18-year-old Indiana Artisan program to promote fine and handcrafted art as well as value-added food products made by Hoosiers. Each of the artisans selected for the honor exemplify the state’s strong entrepreneurial spirit. As members, they will have access to programs to build their businesses and business skills.
A panel of experienced artists, museum curators, educators and business development professionals review applications annually. Selection is based on a unique link with Hoosier history or heritage, originality, quality, price/marketability, and technique. The honor is given selectively to exceptional Hoosier craftsmanship.
The 2027 application will open in late fall. For more information, visit www.IndianaArtisan.org.
