For seven generations, the Huber family has been growing grapes on land that began as a family farm planted in the 1800s by Simon Huber, a German ancestor who knew farming, fruit growing and winemaking.

Today, Huber’s Orchard, Winery & Vineyards is the largest estate-bottled winery in southern Indiana, selling its wares in retail stores, liquor stores, bars and restaurants throughout the state.

“We are 100% family-owned, with three generations of Hubers actively engaged in the business,” says President Ted Huber, who represents the sixth generation of the family. “We grow, harvest, process, age, and bottle almost everything we sell.”

Producing its homegrown products on what is now a 700-acre farm in Clark County, Huber’s has evolved into a must-see destination with a cafe, wine production facility, distillery, ice cream factory, cheese and coffee shop, U-pick program, bakery, farmers market and family fun park.

With its estate-grown grapes planted in the heart of the Indiana Uplands AVA wine region, Ted says the fertile soil of a Midwest farm allows the Huber family to continue its century-old tradition of producing high-quality products.

As master distiller and head winemaker, Ted says that connection to agriculture and the deep roots of a family-owned business inspires him. “This same land has been farmed by the same family for over 175 years,” he says.

Huber’s Winery offers a large selection of dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, and sweet wines; ports, and infusions. Products made at Huber’s Starlight Distillery — the first distillery in Indiana — include brandy and grappa. In addition to the vineyards, the farm grows apples, a variety of berries, peaches, pumpkins, several varieties of squash, Christmas trees, and a wide assortment of seasonal produce.

The Huber family credits “patience, passion and planning” for its success in the wine and agritourism businesses.
